Beijing: Customs officials in China have seized a large consignment of world maps showing Arunachal Pradesh as part of India. These maps had to be exported. The official media gave this news on Friday. China claims Arunachal Pradesh to be part of South Tibet, which India has been vehemently rejecting.
India maintains that Arunachal Pradesh is its integral and inseparable part. Chinese newspaper The Paper.cn reported that the maps were wrapped around 300 export consignments under the name ‘bedclothes’, which were confiscated by customs at Shanghai Pudong airport.
Significantly, China passed a new law in 2019 making it mandatory for all maps printed and sold in the country and exported according to the official format of the Chinese map. China’s claims on Arunachal Pradesh, Taiwan, and the South China Sea are displayed in the official format.
