Islamabad: At least 15 people were injured in Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Thursday in indiscriminate firing from across the border by Afghan security forces. Sources in the Defense Ministry of Pakistan gave this information. This is the second incident of firing in less than a week. According to sources, there was a firing in the Chaman area of Balochistan province, and ‘children and women’ were also injured in it.
Geo News quoted the local administration as saying that the border area is being evacuated after the firing and an emergency has been declared at DHQ Chaman. Medical Superintendent Dr. Malik Achakzai said that at least 12 people are undergoing treatment at the health center. Levi officials said that there was firing from the Afghan side in the populated area around Bogra Road and Custom House areas.
According to Geo News, the Pakistani army has given a befitting reply to the firing of Afghan forces. The Deputy Commissioner of Chaman shared that an emergency has been declared in the area. Also, citizens have been asked to vacate Mall Road, Bogra Road Bypass and Border Road.
Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry has blamed Pakistan for the border shelling. He said that on Thursday the Pakistani army opened fire in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar. Inayatullah Khwarizmi, the spokesman for the Afghan Defense Ministry, said, “Afghanistan believes that any problem can be resolved through dialogue. It is not right for anyone to make an excuse for war by firing like this.
Dr. Abdul Malik of Chaman’s district headquarters hospital told Pakistani media that at least 15 injured civilians were brought to the hospital. This was the second cross-border attack by Afghan troops. They did the same on 10 December, in which seven civilians were killed and 16 others were injured.
Pakistan strongly condemned the incident, but Afghan officials expressed regret, after which Islamabad did not pursue the matter further.
