Russia claims surrender of 1000 Ukrainian soldiers

New Delhi: Today is the 49th day of the war between Russia and Ukraine, but till now there is no sign of the end of the war. Meanwhile, Russia has made a big claim saying that more than 1000 Ukrainian marines have surrendered in front of them in the southeastern city of Mariupol in Ukraine. Reuters News Agency has published this claim of the Russian army. Earlier, Russia had surrounded the city of Mariupol from all sides. It was under siege for several days. Ukraine also said that the city of Mariupol was under siege by Russia. Mariupol has a port where many foreign ships have been stranded for the past month. Now Russia’s claim is likely to affect it further.

47 women soldiers among the surrendered soldiers
Major General Igor Konashenkov, the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, said that at least 1026 marines of the 36th Marine Brigade of Ukraine have surrendered to Russia at the Mariupol Metal Plant. Konashenkov claimed that these Ukrainian soldiers included 162 officers and 47 women. He said, 151 of these soldiers are injured and are being treated. There has been no response from Ukraine on Russia’s claim yet, but a day earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser, Oleksiy Arestovych, tweeted, “36th Marine Brigade is in the city due to a risky maneuver. Managed to join forces with the Azov regiment (Azov regiment). Aristovich tweeted in Ukrainian, which roughly meant that let’s not lost, the military knows what it is doing.

A big challenge before Zelensky
Recently, peace talks between Russia and Ukraine were held in Turkey, after which there was some hope. Russia had also promised to reduce its military campaign around Kyiv, but a few days later the Russian attack intensified. After this, many statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin did not seem that the war was going to end immediately. So far, the Ukrainian army has been praised by the Western media for its persistent and resolute fight against Russia, but for the first time, this big claim of Russia is pointing to demoralizing Ukraine. If Russia’s claim is true, then this could prove to be a big challenge before the Ukrainian President.
