Moscow: A new video has emerged on social media that claims to show Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of Wagner Military Group, who defied Russian President Vladimir Putin, alive and well in Africa. This comes after Prigozhin was reported to have died in a plane crash and was buried in St. Petersburg. The video has been shared by a Telegram channel linked to Wagner Military Group, but its authenticity, location and date have not been verified.
Prigozhin’s private jet crashed on August 23 while flying from Moscow to St. Petersburg, killing all 10 people on board. The bodies were buried after the incident. However, the video has sparked various discussions, comments, and speculations on social media. Reuters news agency has said that Prigozhin’s clothes in the video match a video released on August 21.
In the video, Prigozhin himself says, “For those who are wondering if I am alive or not… what I am doing… today is the weekend. Second half of August 2023. I am in Africa. For those who want to get rid of me, or are curious about my personal life… how much I earn or whatever they want to talk about… please go ahead. Everything is fine.”
Prigozhin claims to be in South Africa, social media users surprised
The video also claims that Prigozhin is in South Africa. Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Minister, has also shared the video. One user commented on it, “We have been waiting for Prigozhin’s video since his death. Especially interested in his personal life and earnings etc. So he is fine now.” Meanwhile, Tass news agency quoted sources as saying that only Prigozhin’s family members and close friends were invited to the funeral as per his family’s wishes.
