New Delhi: As November progresses, many parts of India are still on the lookout for winter’s arrival. In some northern states, the chill has begun to settle, signaling the first signs of seasonal transition. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a notable increase in cold conditions after November 10 across states such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Mild cold temperatures are already being felt in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, where nighttime lows are dipping, setting the stage for winter. Meanwhile, rain is expected in southern regions like Andaman and Nicobar, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, bringing additional cooling effects.
Delhi’s Air Quality Worsens Amid Stubborn Warmth
In Delhi, the first week of November has yet to usher in the cooler temperatures expected at this time of year. Instead, residents of the capital are dealing with persistent pollution, as fog and smog blanket the city in the mornings. Post-Diwali, pollution levels have surged, causing visibility issues and respiratory discomfort. According to the IMD, temperatures in Delhi remain relatively high, with a maximum of 32°C and a minimum of 17°C forecasted for today. Residents are advised to wear masks and take precautions, especially to protect children and the elderly, as the air quality remains “very poor.”
Southern States Under Rain Alert as Returning Monsoon Brings Showers
In the south, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for several states, with heavy rain expected from November 9 to 13 in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Mahe. On November 8, showers are expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe, bringing a brief respite from the typical seasonal dry spell. Light rain from the returning monsoon is also forecasted in Kerala, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram over the next two days, potentially bringing a cooling effect and a drop in temperatures.
In northeastern states like Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, light rains are also anticipated, signaling the onset of cooler weather across these regions. With temperatures set to fall and rain clouds moving in, winter’s presence is gradually making itself felt across India’s diverse landscapes.
