Bhopal: As heavy rains subside, Madhya Pradesh is now stepping into the winter season, with nighttime temperatures taking a sharp dip. Cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Ujjain are already feeling the chill, with nighttime temperatures hovering around 20°C. Meanwhile, other regions, including Gwalior, are experiencing even cooler nights, with temperatures between 18-19°C. The coldest spot in the state is Pachmarhi, where both day and night temperatures have plummeted.
Pachmarhi Records Coldest Night at 14.8°C
Pachmarhi has emerged as the coldest place in Madhya Pradesh, with Sunday-Monday night temperatures dropping to 14.8°C. Other cities across the state, including Naugaon, Raisen, Chhindwara, Khajuraho, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Rewa, Sagar, Tikamgarh, Jabalpur, and Umaria, have also recorded nighttime lows below 20°C. The mercury in these areas has fallen by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius, signaling the start of the winter season.
Cold Wave Expected to Gradually Intensify
According to the Meteorological Department, this cooling trend is consistent with the last 10 years, where a significant drop in temperatures is observed in the final week of October. The current cooling phase is expected to intensify in the coming days, as the winter chill strengthens across the state.
Rain Ends, but Another System May Bring Showers After October 24
The state’s southern regions had been drenched by persistent rains over the past week, caused by a low-pressure area and cyclonic circulation system. The rains have now ceased, bringing temporary relief, but a new weather system developing in the Bay of Bengal could bring more rain to Madhya Pradesh’s eastern districts by October 24. Light rain has already been recorded in some areas, but the monsoon is now retreating, signaling a clear spell of weather over the next three days.
Clear Skies to Prevail in Coming Days
With the weakening of the rain system, clear skies are forecast for much of the state in the next few days. However, after October 24, thunderstorms and overcast conditions may return to the eastern parts of the state, potentially extending the rainy spell for a short period. For now, residents can expect a break from the rain and enjoy the crisp winter air as the colder season makes its presence felt.
As the transition from monsoon to winter takes hold, Madhya Pradesh is preparing for cooler days and nights, with the possibility of more rain in the near future.
