Hong Kong: Hong Kong police raided the office of a website on Wednesday after arresting six people on charges of conspiracy to publish sedition-related material. Police said that more than 200 officers are carrying out the raids.

He has a warrant under the National Security Act enacted last year to confiscate relevant journalistic material. Six people were arrested early Wednesday on charges of conspiracy to publish seditious material under a colonial-era crime ordinance and searches were underway at their residences, he said.

According to the local newspaper ‘South China Morning Post’, police have arrested a former and a current editor of ‘Stand News‘ and four former members of the board. These include singer and activist Denise Ho and former MP Margaret Ngo. However, the police did not reveal the identities of the arrested people.

Stand News shared on Facebook a video of police officers raiding the home of deputy editor Ronson Chan early Wednesday to investigate the alleged crime, South China Morning Post reported.

Chan is also the president of the Hong Kong Journalists Association. However, he has not been arrested yet but has been taken for questioning. The arrests come amid authorities trying to crack down on discontent in the semi-autonomous Chinese city. Police on Tuesday charged former Apple Daily newspaper publisher Jimmy Lai with treason. The newspaper ‘Apple Daily’ has been closed.
