Washington: US President Donald Trump signed a law on Monday under which a post office in Texas would be named after the late Sikh police officer Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal. Dhaliwal was shot and killed a year ago while handling traffic arrangements in Houston. The White House said in a statement that Trump has signed legislation related to building the Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal Post Office name of the post office (Houston Post office) located at 315 Edix Howell Road in Houston, Texas.

In the US, two post offices have so far been named after Bharatvanshi. Earlier in 2006, the post office was named in Southern California after the first Indian Parliamentarian Dalip Singh Saund. The House of Representatives and the Senate recently passed the bill in this regard. Texas MP Ted Cruz said in the Senate that Dhaliwal was a hero and guide whose work would inspire generations of Sikhs and religious minorities. Dhaliwal was assassinated on duty on 27 September 2019. India-born Dhaliwal moved to Houston with his parents. Dhaliwal, posted in Harris County’s Law Enforcement Office, was the first Indian Sikh in Texas to be allowed to perform duty by following his religious beliefs, including wearing a turban and keeping a beard.
