New Delhi: In a welcome change, Delhi-NCR and North India are experiencing cooler nights and mild days, marking a shift from the previous heat. Where just weeks ago, the heat lingered even during the night, now people are enjoying a slight chill in the air, even under fans. The afternoon heat still persists, but the temperature dips significantly by evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that while no major drop in temperature is expected in the coming days, a pleasant balance will continue. The minimum temperature is likely to remain stable, with Delhi’s mercury levels projected at 35°C during the day and dropping to a pleasant 19°C at night.
Rain Brings Cooler Air to Parts of India
While Delhi remains dry, parts of Mumbai and Ahmedabad are experiencing light rain, adding to the seasonal shift. States like Uttar Pradesh are also seeing mixed weather conditions, with sunny afternoons followed by cooler evenings. This mild shift has led many residents across states to turn off their air conditioners, embracing the gentle breeze that signals the approach of winter.
When Will the Cold Fully Set In?
For residents of Delhi-NCR, the transition into cooler weather is expected between October 25 and November 5. During this period, temperatures are anticipated to dip further, ushering in the early stages of winter across the region. States in North India, too, will begin to feel the effects, with afternoon warmth giving way to chilly nights.
Rain Alerts in Assam and Karnataka: States Brace for Wet Weather
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a rain alert for several districts of Assam, including Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, and Tinsukia, where moderate showers are expected. Karnataka’s regions, such as Belgaum, Dharwad, Gadag, and Udupi, are also on yellow alert for rain, with light showers forecast.
Bay of Bengal Low-Pressure System to Trigger Heavy Rains
The IMD has also warned of heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh between October 20 and 24 due to a low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal. States in the region, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, are expected to experience significant rainfall, with authorities issuing yellow alerts in preparation for potential downpours.
As the weather continues to fluctuate, residents across North India are enjoying the gradual change in climate, while southern and eastern regions brace for heavy rains in the coming days.
