The UAE Ministry of Education has officially announced the resumption of in-person learning across all government and private educational institutions starting Monday, May 11, 2026. This move marks the end of a week-long transition to online classes, a precautionary measure implemented to ensure student safety during a period of heightened regional security threats.
The Ministry confirmed that all levels of education, including nurseries, primary and secondary schools, and higher education institutions, will welcome back students, teachers, and staff to attend campus as usual. Educational authorities have instructed all institutions to follow rigorous safety protocols to provide a secure environment and reduce any lingering apprehension among parents and students.
Context of the Remote Learning Shift
The shift to remote learning last week was prompted by a significant escalation in regional tensions. On May 4, the UAE faced a severe aerial attack involving 15 missiles, including 12 ballistic missiles and 3 cruise missiles, which were fired from Iran toward the UAE. This incident represented a major breach of the ceasefire agreement established between the United States and Iran in April, marking the first large-scale violation of the pact.
UAE security agencies successfully mitigated the threat, reporting that the majority of the missiles were intercepted and shot down in mid-air by advanced air defense systems. While the interceptions prevented extensive property damage or major loss of life, the government temporarily adjusted operations at schools, offices, and public institutions to prioritize public safety.
Latest Security Updates and Defense Measures
The security situation remains closely monitored. As recently as Sunday, May 10, two unmanned drones were detected entering UAE airspace. Defense systems successfully neutralized both threats without resulting in any casualties in the past few hours. While the immediate threat has been managed, the ongoing tension has resulted in a total of three fatalities since its onset, including two soldiers and a Moroccan national working with the army.
In its concluding statement, the Ministry of Education expressed full confidence in the nation’s security apparatus. Officials emphasized that coordinated efforts between security agencies have effectively managed the situation, and the Ministry believes there is currently no threat to the normal functioning of schools. Parents have been advised to adhere to the safety guidelines issued by their respective schools and are urged to rely only on official information while disregarding unverified rumors.
