New Delhi: As winter is on the verge of ending in many states of the country, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for various regions from 10th February to 14th February. The rain is expected to bring some relief from the cold and dry weather in the plains, while the mountains may still experience chilly conditions.
According to the IMD, a western disturbance will likely affect the western Himalayan region from 9th February onwards, causing light to moderate rain or snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The disturbance will also induce a cyclonic circulation over central India, leading to widespread rainfall in several states.
The IMD has predicted light to moderate rain in Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and Sikkim on 9th February and in Odisha on 11th and 12th February. In central India, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada will receive rain from 10th to 14th February, while Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal will witness rainfall from 12th to 14th February. The IMD has also issued a warning of thunderstorms and hailstorms in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Chhattisgarh on 11th February.
The rain is likely to increase the humidity and cloud cover in the plains, resulting in higher minimum and maximum temperatures. Delhi, the national capital, will see a rise in both day and night temperatures in the next five days. By 15th February, the maximum temperature in Delhi can reach 25 degrees Celsius, marking the end of the winter season. The night temperature will also gradually increase, relieving the harsh cold.
In the next 24 hours, Skymet Weather, a private weather forecasting agency, has forecast light rain in East Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Light to moderate rain is possible in Vidarbha, Marathwada, North Telangana, and Chhattisgarh from 10th February. Dense fog may occur in parts of North Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim in the morning. The minimum temperature may fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in many parts of eastern and central India. Ground frost is possible in different parts of Uttarakhand.
