In a major train accident between Kanpur and Bhimsen stations in Uttar Pradesh, 22 coaches of Sabarmati Express (train number 19168) derailed. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries. Here are the details:
- Accident Details: The incident occurred in a block section between Kanpur and Bhimsen station around 2:30 AM. The train was en route from Varanasi to Ahmedabad when the derailment happened.
- Cause: According to initial reports from the driver, a boulder struck the engine, causing significant damage to the engine’s cattle guard. This damage led to the derailment.
- Coach Breakdown: Of the 22 derailed coaches, there were 7 AC coaches, 8 sleeper coaches, and 7 general coaches.
- Passenger Response: Most passengers were asleep when the derailment occurred. Amidst the chaos, they jumped out of the coaches. Buses were promptly arranged to transport passengers from the accident site to Kanpur Railway Station. A memo train is also on its way to assist.
- No Loss of Life: Kanpur ADM Rakesh Verma confirmed that no one was injured. Passengers are being safely transported to the station by buses.
The Indian Railways is investigating the incident, and emergency helpline numbers have been issued for concerned stations. Thankfully, there has been no loss of life in this unfortunate event.
