Mumbai: Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor, who recently welcomed his daughter Raha with Alia Bhatt, is in a controversy for his Christmas celebration with his family. A video of the ‘Animal’ actor has gone viral on social media, in which he is seen pouring liquor on a cake, lighting it up, and saying ‘Jai Mata Di’ before cutting it. The video has sparked outrage among some Hindu groups, who have accused him of hurting their religious sentiments.
A Mumbai resident named Sanjay Tiwari filed a complaint against Ranbir and his family members at Ghatkopar Police Station on Wednesday, through his lawyers Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra. Tiwari has claimed that Ranbir and his family members have insulted Hinduism by using intoxicants and chanting ‘Jai Mata Di’ while celebrating a Christian festival. He has also alleged that Ranbir has disrespected Agni Dev, the fire god, who is invoked before other deities in Hindu rituals.
Tiwari has demanded that the police register a case against the ‘Barfi’ actor under sections 295 (A), 298, 500, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, uttering words with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings, defamation, and common intention, respectively. However, the police have not filed an FIR in the matter yet, nor have they given any updates on the status of the complaint.
Ranbir Kapoor, who is known for his films like ‘Rockstar’, ‘Sanju’, and ‘Tamasha’, has not responded to the controversy yet. He was seen enjoying a Christmas lunch with his entire Kapoor family, including his parents Neetu, his sister Riddhima, his uncle Randhir, and his cousins Karisma, Kareena, and Armaan, at his late grandfather Shashi Kapoor’s house in Mumbai. He also introduced his daughter Raha to the media for the first time, along with Alia Bhatt, who is also a popular actress in Bollywood. The couple announced the birth of their daughter on December 22, 2023, through social media.
