New Delhi: As November begins, colder temperatures are settling over the hills of North India, heralding the arrival of winter in parts of the country. The northern plains, however, are still waiting for the seasonal chill to set in, as Delhi NCR and surrounding areas continue to experience bright, warm sunshine during the day. Snowfall in the high-altitude regions has started cooling down hill stations, but winter’s full force is yet to reach the lower areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a gradual temperature drop in coming days, with colder weather expected to spread to Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab. As morning and evening temperatures start to dip, residents of these regions may soon feel a gentle “pink” cold signaling winter’s advance.

Today’s Temperature Across India: Warm Days and Cool Nights

Despite the arrival of November, daytime temperatures remain high in certain parts of the country, especially in western Rajasthan, where cities like Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Bikaner continue to grapple with intense daytime heat. Residents of these desert areas can expect some relief at night, when mild cold temperatures set in, offering a small respite from the daytime sun.

In Delhi, the combination of lingering heat and increasing air pollution continues to create challenges for residents. Today, the capital is likely to experience mild fog, which is expected to linger through most parts of the day. According to the IMD forecast, Delhi’s maximum temperature is likely to reach around 33°C, with a minimum of 17°C, while a more noticeable dip in temperature may arrive by November 15.

Western Disturbances Bring Clouds and Snow to Northern Hills, Cooler Weather to Follow

A western disturbance has begun to influence weather patterns across the northern region, with high peaks expected to see light snowfall. Haryana, in particular, may experience cloud cover today due to this weather shift, which is likely to bring cooler air across the region. The IMD has noted that light rain could touch some areas from November 15 onwards, further cooling the atmosphere. Residents should prepare for a much colder end to November, with conditions expected to become significantly chillier.

Rain Alert Issued in Southern and Coastal States

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, forecasting rain across these regions today, November 12. From November 14 to 17, more states in the South can expect wet weather, including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka. Residents in these states should prepare for sustained showers, which may bring temporary relief to certain areas that remain warm despite the approaching winter season.

As the month progresses, colder air is likely to envelop more of northern India, bringing about the awaited transition into winter.
