
Jamshedpur: In a remarkable display of youthful courage and determination, 16-year-old Kamya Karthikeyan has etched her name in the annals of mountaineering history by becoming the youngest Indian to summit Mount Everest. This extraordinary feat was accomplished on May 20, as she reached the towering peak of 8,849 meters alongside her father, Indian Navy Commander S. Karthikeyan.
Hailing from Nepal, Kamya’s achievement was announced by the Jamshedpur-based Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF), which supported the expedition. A student of the Naval Children’s School in Mumbai, Kamya has not only set a national record but also claimed the title of the second youngest girl globally to conquer the world’s highest mountain from the Nepal side.
The Indian Navy, celebrating her success, shared images of the triumphant climber on social media. In a statement, the Navy praised Kamya’s “immense courage and patience” as she has scaled the highest peaks on six of the seven continents, a testament to her adventurous spirit and tenacity.
Chanakya Chaudhary, President of TSAF, expressed immense pride in Kamya’s achievement, stating that her journey is a shining example of perseverance, meticulous preparation, and unwavering determination. Kamya’s accolades include the prestigious Prime Minister’s National Bal Shakti Award, recognizing her exceptional accomplishments and contributions to the nation as a young achiever.
As Kamya Karthikeyan continues to inspire with her mountaineering prowess, she sets her sights on further challenges, aiming to conquer the remaining peaks and solidify her legacy as one of the world’s most formidable young climbers.
