Islamabad: The unemployment rate in Pakistan has reached 16 percent. Prime Minister Imran Khan has failed miserably on the issue of employment. Government schemes have been beaten. Rising unemployment in the neighboring country can be gauged from the fact that 15 lakh people have applied for one post of government peon.

According to Dawn’s report, at least 15 lakh people had applied for the post of a peon in the High Court. Officials said that among those who applied for the job, MPhil degree holders were also included.

The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) released the figures on Monday. According to this, the unemployment rate in Pakistan is currently at its highest level. This is 16 percent as against the Imran Khan-led Pakistan government’s claim of 6.5 percent.

According to media reports, PIDE has exposed a grim picture of the rising unemployment rate. It has been said that at present at least 24 percent of the educated people in the country are unemployed. In its briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Planning and Development, PIDE said that 40 percent of educated women (undergraduates or graduates) across the country were also unemployed.
