New Delhi: India is in contact with the government of Dominica, Antigua, and Barbuda to bring back fugitive Mehul Choksi from the Caribbean region. Sources gave this information on Thursday. Choksi had recently escaped from Antigua and Barbuda and was arrested in neighboring Dominica in view of Interpol’s “Yellow Notice” against him. The news came in Antigua’s media on Wednesday.

Sources said that India was in contact with Antigua and Barbuda in this case and has now established contact with the Dominica government. A source said, “We are in touch with him. Our interest in bringing back Choksi and other fugitives remains firm. ” He said, “Our focus is to bring them back to the country as soon as possible.”

The investigating agencies are believed to be pursuing the case to bring Choksi to India. Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Geston Brownlee said that he has asked Dominica to hand over the diamond business directly to India.

After the news of Choksi’s arrest in Dominica on Tuesday night, Brownie told the media that he had given clear instructions to the administration of Dominica regarding sending Choksi to India.

Antigua News quoted Brownie as saying, “We have asked them not to send (Dominica) Choksi to Antigua. He needs to be sent back to India where he has to face criminal charges against him. “

Choksi is wanted in a Rs 13,500-crore debt fraud case in Punjab National Bank. In this case, his relative Nirav Modi is also accused of cheating. Nirav Modi is currently in jail in London.
