New Delhi: The Indian government on Tuesday banned 43 mobile apps (43 CHINESE APPS) being used in the country. These apps have been banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. These apps are considered a threat to the security of the nation by the central government. The new list of app bans includes a number of apps from Chinese tech giant Alibaba, such as Alisupellers Mobile, Alibaba Workbench, AliExpress and Alipay Cashier.
These apps will no longer be available on Google Play Store and Apple Play Store after being banned by the Government of India. Not only that, the users who are currently using these apps will soon stop working. This is the fourth action taken by the Government of India on Chinese Apps so far. Following the new list, 267 Chinese apps have been banned in India so far, including Tiktok, UC.
Action against Chinese apps began in June
Following the ongoing Indo-Chinese conflict in eastern Ladakh, the Indian government had initiated action against the Chinese app in June this year. 59 Chinese apps were shut down in June, including TickTock, ShareIt, UC Browser and WeChat.
- Within just one month, 47 apps, including Camscanner, were banned in July.
- But banning 118 Chinese apps in September was considered the biggest move by the central government, which included highly popular apps like PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite. Banning all these apps, the central government claimed that they were a threat to the country’s integrity and internal security.
The list of 43 banned apps in India includes Chinese social-free online dating video app and chat, dating in Asia, WeDate-dating app, free dating app-single. By banning these apps, the Government of India has again claimed that the apps banned under the provisions of Section 69A of the IT Act pose a threat to the sovereignty and integrity of India.
Promotion of self-contained apps
After the ban on Chinese apps by the central government, the desi apps have got the benefit of it. Domestic apps like Spark, Mitron, MX Player and more have benefited from the ban on Chinese app TickTock for making short videos. Similarly, after the ban on PUBG, the upcoming gaming app, Fearless and United-Guards or FAU-G is also expected to get support from users.
