EC declares the date of by-elections on 7 assembly seats, 5th September voting and, results on 8th

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Tuesday announced the dates for the by-elections to 7 assembly seats in 6 states. Voting will be held on these 7 seats on 5th September and the results will be clear on 8th September with the counting of votes.

In these 7 seats, there will be by-elections for 2 seats in Tripura and one seat each in Kerala, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The Kerala seat fell vacant after the death of veteran Congress leader Oommen Chandy. Chandy was an MLA from Puthupalli’s seat in Kerala. He represented this seat for more than 50 years.

On the other hand, after the death of sitting MLA Jagarnath Mahto in the Dumri assembly seat in Jharkhand, the by-election became necessary. The Election Commission said that due to the death of sitting MLA Samsul Haque and the resignation of Pratima Bhowmik, there will be by-elections in Boxnagar and Dhanpur seats in Tripura.

Bihar assembly elections

Apart from this, the Dhupguri assembly seat in West Bengal fell vacant after the death of a sitting member of the assembly Bishnu Pada Ray, while the Ghosi seat in Uttar Pradesh fell vacant after SP’s Dara Singh Chauhan resigned and joined the BJP. On the other hand, the Bageshwar seat of Uttarakhand fell vacant after the death of sitting MLA Chandan Ram Das.
