Mumbai: In a tragic hit-and-run incident in Mumbai’s Worli area, a speeding BMW car collided with a couple riding a bike early on Sunday at around 5:30 am near Atria Mall.
The impact caused the vehicle to overturn, throwing the couple onto the car’s bonnet. The husband managed to jump off, but his wife, Kaveri Nakwa, who was carrying a heavy load, could not. Nakwa was dragged for 100 meters, suffering severe injuries.
The victims, residents of Worli’s Koliwada area, had just returned from Sassoon Dock after purchasing fish when the vehicle knocked them down. Tragically, Kaveri Nakwa succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The car was allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, the son of a leader of the Shiv Sena party led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Shah, who is 24 years old, has been absconding since the incident.
Worli police are actively investigating the matter. Chief Minister Shinde has promised an impartial investigation, emphasizing that everyone will be treated equally under the law. Additionally, Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackrey visited the Worli police station and urged rising beyond politics to ensure strict action in hit-and-run cases. This tragic event highlights the need for road safety awareness and responsible driving in Mumbai.
