New Delhi: In a significant development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail until June 1. The bail comes in light of a money laundering case linked to the Delhi Excise Policy, which the Enforcement Directorate is investigating.
Prior to Kejriwal’s release, a throng of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and supporters had already assembled outside the jail premises. Upon his exit, Kejriwal was greeted with enthusiasm and support, with his wife Sunita Kejriwal, and daughter accompanying him.
Kejriwal to Address Public and Media Post-Release
Following his release, Kejriwal addressed the gathered AAP workers, expressing his contentment and gratitude. “It feels good to be among you. I had promised a swift return, and here I am,” he stated. He extended his thanks to the party supporters and the Supreme Court justices for their roles in his release.
Kejriwal also shared his immediate plans now that he is out of jail. He announced, “Tomorrow at 11 am, we will visit the Connaught Place Hanuman temple for darshan, followed by a press conference at the party office at 1 pm.”
Supreme Court’s Interim Bail Decision
The Supreme Court’s decision to grant interim bail was influenced by the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, allowing Kejriwal to participate in the campaign. The bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Dutta, stipulated that Kejriwal must surrender by June 2 and return to custody.
This interim bail has been perceived as a potential game-changer for the elections, with AAP leaders suggesting it could significantly impact the party’s campaign and prospects. Kejriwal’s release after 50 days in jail has been met with widespread media coverage and public interest, as he resumes his role in the political arena.
