Mumbai: Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade, who is known for his comic roles in films like Iqbal, Golmaal Returns, and Om Shanti Om, suffered a heart attack on Thursday evening while shooting for his upcoming movie Welcome to the Jungle. The 47-year-old actor was rushed to Mumbai Bellevue Hospital, where he underwent an emergency angioplasty to clear the blockage in his coronary artery. The hospital authorities said that the actor’s condition was stable and he was under the observation of the doctors.
Shreyas Talpade was shooting for the comedy film Welcome to the Jungle, which was directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Firoz Nadiadwala. The film is a sequel to 2007 hit Welcome and features a star-studded cast of Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Tushar Kapoor, Krishna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Daler Mehndi, Mika Singh, Rahul Dev, Mukesh Tiwari, Sharib Hashmi, Inamulhaq, Zakir Hussain, Yashpal Sharma, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani and Vrihi Kodwara. The film is expected to release in 2024.
According to sources, Shreyas Talpade had completed his shooting for the day and was about to leave the set, when he suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness. His co-stars and crew members immediately called for an ambulance and took him to the nearest hospital. The doctors diagnosed him with a heart attack and performed an angioplasty to restore the blood flow to his heart. The surgery was done at around 10 pm and was successful. The actor regained consciousness and was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for further monitoring.
Shreyas Talpade’s family and friends were informed about his health condition and they rushed to the hospital to see him. His wife Deepti Talpade, who is also a film producer, said that she was shocked and worried when she heard the news, but was relieved to see him recovering. She thanked the doctors and the hospital staff for their timely intervention and care. She also thanked the fans and the film fraternity for their prayers and wishes for Shreyas’s speedy recovery.
Shreyas Talpade is one of the most popular and versatile actors in Bollywood, who has worked in both Hindi and Marathi films. He made his debut in 2005 with the critically acclaimed film Iqbal, in which he played the role of a deaf and mute aspiring cricketer. He won several awards for his performance, including the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He then went on to star in several comedy films, such as Apna Sapna Money Money, Golmaal Returns, Housefull 2, and Poster Boys. He also played a supporting role in the blockbuster film Om Shanti Om, in which he shared the screen with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. He has also directed and produced a few films, such as Poshter Boyz and Baji.
