London: The new Covid vaccine being developed by leading pharmaceutical company Pfizer and Biontech will start making it available “at the end of this year or early next year” once all is well. One of its makers gave this information on Sunday. Last week, Biotech and co-maker Pfizer said the analysis of its vaccine showed it could be effective in protecting more than 90 percent of people from Covid-19. About 43,000 people participated in the investigation.
Biontech co-founder and CEO Prof. Ugur Sahin told the BBC that the target is to provide more than 300 million doses worldwide by April next year. “Summer weather will help us as the infection rate will decrease in summer and it is very important that we achieve a high rate of vaccination before autumn/winter next year,” he said.
“If all goes well, the vaccine will be available” at the end of this year or early next year, “he said. Sahin said he believes the vaccine will reduce the risk of infection among people as well as prevent symptoms from developing in a person who has been vaccinated. “I am confident that such an effective vaccine is expected to stop the spread of infection among the people,” he said.
He said this winter will still be difficult as the vaccine will not have a major impact on the number of infections. There have been 5,40,68,000 cases of this epidemic worldwide. The country most affected by the coronavirus is the United States. According to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University, there have been more than 1,09,08,000 cases of the epidemic in the United States and 2,45,600 people have died. Asked if the vaccine is as effective in the elderly as it is in the young, he said he hopes to get better information in the next three weeks. This vaccine is one of 11 vaccines currently in the final stages of testing.
