Mumbai: A private jet with eight people on board skidded off the runway and caught fire while landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Thursday evening. Three people were injured and taken to the hospital. The accident occurred at 5:04 pm due to poor visibility caused by heavy rain. The airport operations have been suspended until further notice.
The jet, a VSR Ventures Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL, was flying from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai. It had six passengers and two crew members on board. The fire brigade personnel quickly extinguished the fire. No casualties have been reported yet.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that the jet was involved in a runway excursion (deviation) while landing on runway 27 at Mumbai airport. The visibility was 700 meters due to heavy rain. The BMC and the airport spokesperson confirmed the details of the accident.
