New Delhi: Data consumption is high in India right now. Now a new report says that by 2028, Indians will consume about 62GB of data every month per user, which will be the highest in the world. The figure mentioned in the report will be ahead of developed markets like America, Western Europe, South Korea, and China. Factors like cheap data rates, growth of 5G networks, and availability of affordable smartphones will work to keep more of India online.
As per the predictions made in the Ericsson Mobility Report (June 2023), 5G is set for rapid growth in India, one of the largest in the world. Because the number of customers in the country will increase from 10 million by the end of 2022 to 700 million by the end of 2028. This will make India the second largest single market for 5G customers worldwide, while China will be the largest with 1,310 million users.
5G will continue to be available at an affordable price
Growth in 5G will also happen at a time when the number of 4G subscribers in India starts declining. Because mobile networks will rapidly turn into next-generation 5G. While there will not be much change in the tariff. It is estimated that 4G subscribers will decline from 820 million in 2022 to 500 million by 2028.
The biennial Ericsson report, which captures global trends in the telecom sector, states that consumer data consumption in India will grow at a CAGR of 16% between 2022 and 2028, rising from 26GB (per user per month) recorded at the end of 2022.
Total mobile subscriptions in this region are expected to increase to 1.2 billion in 2028. Ericsson estimates that smartphone subscriptions in India as a percentage of total mobile users will grow from 76% in 2022 to 93% in 2028.
