Mumbai: A 25-year-old Air India pilot, Srishti Tuli, was found dead in her Mumbai apartment on Monday in what police suspect to be a case of suicide. The incident has led to the arrest of her boyfriend, Aditya Pandit (27), on charges of abetment following allegations of harassment and emotional abuse.

A Promising Career Ends in Heartbreaking Loss

Tuli, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had moved to Mumbai in June 2023 to pursue her dream career as a pilot. She was residing in the Kanakia Rain Forest apartment complex in the Marol area. Despite her professional success, her personal life reportedly took a darker turn.

Family members allege that Tuli was subjected to emotional abuse by Pandit, who allegedly imposed controlling behaviors, including pressuring her to stop eating non-vegetarian food.

A Relationship Turns Toxic

Tuli and Pandit met two years ago while attending a commercial pilot training program in Delhi. Their relationship, which started with shared aspirations, reportedly deteriorated over time, culminating in Tuli’s death.

According to Powai police, the tragic events began when Tuli called Pandit during his car journey to Delhi, saying she intended to end her life. Alarmed, Pandit immediately drove back to Mumbai, where he found her apartment locked from the inside.

With the help of a locksmith, Pandit entered the flat and discovered Tuli hanging by a data cable. She was rushed to a hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Legal Action Follows Family Complaint

Following a complaint filed by Tuli’s uncle, Pandit was arrested on Tuesday under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit for abetment of suicide. He was presented before a court, which remanded him to police custody for four days.

Raising Awareness on Mental Health and Abuse

Tuli’s death has sparked a conversation about the mental health challenges young professionals face in high-pressure careers like aviation. The allegations of emotional abuse also highlight the need for greater awareness and intervention in toxic relationships.
