New Delhi: A shocking controversy has emerged involving Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Verma after a video surfaced showing burnt currency notes allegedly found at his official residence. The viral footage has sparked widespread discussion on social media, prompting judicial authorities to take swift action.

According to an official report, firefighters discovered 4-5 half-burnt sacks containing remnants of Indian currency while extinguishing flames in a room at Justice Verma’s house. Following this revelation, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has formed a three-member committee to investigate the source of the cash and the circumstances surrounding its discovery. The committee includes Chief Justice Sheel Nagu (Punjab and Haryana High Court), Chief Justice G.S. Sandhawalia (Himachal Pradesh High Court), and Justice Anu Sivaraman (Karnataka High Court).

In light of these allegations, the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court has been directed not to assign any judicial work to Justice Verma until further notice. Additionally, documents related to this case, including reports from the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and Justice Verma’s reply, have been made public on the court’s official website.

Justice Verma’s Response

Justice Yashwant Verma has strongly denied the allegations, calling them baseless and defamatory. In his official statement submitted to the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, he asserted that neither he nor his family ever stored cash in the room where the fire broke out. He described the claims as part of a conspiracy aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

“I categorically reject these allegations,” said Justice Verma. “If there are assertions about burnt sacks containing cash being recovered from my residence, I completely deny them. Neither were we shown such sacks nor were they handed over to us.”

The unfolding investigation is expected to shed light on this high-profile case, which has already captured public attention nationwide.
