Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially entered India’s electric vehicle segment with the launch of the Urban Cruiser Ebella, priced at ₹23.60 lakh ex-showroom. The announcement was made on Thursday, marking a significant milestone for the Japanese automaker as it introduces its first all-electric offering to Indian consumers.
For now, the Ebella is available exclusively in its top E3 variant. Toyota has also confirmed that a Battery as a Service option will be introduced, which will bring the effective acquisition cost down for buyers who prefer not to purchase the battery outright. Full details of the BaaS pricing structure are expected to be disclosed in the coming days.
Shared Platform, Premium Positioning
The Urban Cruiser Ebella shares its platform and underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki eVitara, a common arrangement under the Suzuki,Toyota alliance. Both vehicles are built around a 61 kWh battery pack, with Toyota claiming a driving range of 543 km on a single charge. The Ebella is powered by a 128 kW electric motor producing 189 Nm of torque.
At ₹23.60 lakh, the Ebella E3 is positioned ₹3.60 lakh above the equivalent eVitara variant, which starts at ₹20 lakh ex-showroom. Toyota has chosen to differentiate the Ebella through a stronger emphasis on premium cabin features, connected technology, and ownership support rather than on price competitiveness alone.
Bookings for the model have been open since January, giving the company a head start on gauging demand ahead of the formal price announcement.
A Well-Equipped Cabin
The Ebella’s interior reflects its premium positioning. Standard features include ventilated front seats, reclining and sliding rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and a JBL-branded audio system. The dashboard is anchored by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
On the safety front, the Ebella comes equipped with Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a high-tensile body structure designed to perform in crash scenarios.
Strong Ownership Support
Toyota is backing the Ebella with an eight-year battery warranty and assured buyback schemes, addressing two of the most common concerns among prospective EV buyers in India. The company’s EV service network already spans more than 500 touchpoints nationwide, supported by over 2,500 trained technicians.
The eVitara’s Market Momentum
The Ebella’s launch comes on the back of growing momentum for its platform sibling. The Maruti Suzuki eVitara had a slow start when it first went on sale, with just 224 units sold in January 2026, accounting for roughly 1 per cent of the electric vehicle market. By April 2026, however, sales had climbed sharply to 1,321 units, pushing eVitara’s market share to 5.3 per cent, a trajectory that will offer some encouragement to Toyota as it prepares to scale up Ebella deliveries.
