Pune: A training aircraft of a private aviation academy crashed near Baramati airfield in Pune district of Maharashtra on Sunday morning, injuring two pilots. The incident occurred due to a technical fault in the aircraft, which belonged to the Red Bird Academy Technam. The injured pilot, an instructor, and a trainee were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the aircraft VT-RBT had to make an emergency landing near the airfield after developing some technical snag. The DGCA said that the instructor and the trainee are safe and further investigation is ongoing.

The Pune Rural Police also confirmed the incident and said that the aircraft crashed during a training session near Gojubavi village in Baramati taluka at around 8 a.m. Senior Inspector Prabhakar More of Baramati police station said that the cause of the accident has not been revealed yet and an investigation is ongoing in the matter.

This is the second incident involving a training aircraft of a private aviation academy in the Pune district within four days. On October 19, another training aircraft crashed near Katphal village in Baramati MIDC area, injuring one person. There were two persons on board the plane, who were also taken to hospital.
