New Delhi: The monsoon has made a dramatic return to Maharashtra, causing widespread disruption. On Thursday, torrential rains forced the closure of schools and colleges in Mumbai. The city’s traffic came to a standstill, with local trains and flights severely impacted.

Severe Weather Alerts Across India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for several regions. While some relief is expected today, many areas in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh remain on high alert.

Maharashtra’s Struggle

Maharashtra is bearing the brunt of the monsoon’s return. Daily life has been significantly disrupted, with the IMD forecasting strong winds and thunderstorms in Nashik and Palghar over the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for eastern Maharashtra.

Light Showers in Delhi

Delhi is expected to experience light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. The maximum temperature today will be 33°C, with a minimum of 24°C.

Alerts in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan

The monsoon’s retreat from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan is delayed. Yellow and orange alerts have been issued for both eastern and western Uttar Pradesh, with rain expected until Saturday.

Rain Warnings in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar

The IMD has warned of rain in several districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Bhopal, Gwalior, Guna, Chhindwara, and Datia. Bihar is also on alert, with heavy rain warnings for Bhagalpur, Gaya, Jamui, Chapra, and Patna. Yellow and orange alerts have been announced.

Punjab and Haryana

The weather in Punjab and Haryana is expected to remain clear. However, heavy rain was observed on Thursday morning. No rain is predicted for September 27.

The hilly states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are not out of the woods yet. An orange alert for rain has been issued in Uttarakhand today, with a yellow alert for September 28. Himachal Pradesh is also on alert for rain. In Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, thunderstorms are expected, but no rain is forecasted.
