Bhopal: An officer-employee of all the mandis of Madhya Pradesh,Hammal and Tulawati gathered in Bhopal to protest against the Model Act. First the employees demonstrated at the main gate of Mandi Board Headquarters. After this, all the employees took out a rally and reached the ministry. During this entire dharna demonstration, the social distancing was dismantled. The police stopped all employees by putting barricades at a distance from the ministry. For almost an hour, the officer staff sat on the road. Police officers explained them. During this time the SDM took memorandum from the employee organizations to the Governor. Police and district administration officials warned the employees to leave before the ministry. Then the employees sat on the road and kept insisting on going to the ministry. Then the police used light force on them and drove them from there.
Thousands of officer employees of 259 mandis, 298 sub-mandis, 13 technical divisions, 7 zonal offices are on indefinite strike in Madhya Pradesh. Officers of the mandi across the state reached the capital Bhopal to protest against the new Model Act made about the market. Bibi Faujdar, president of the United Employees’ Front, said that with Model 18, there will be loss of farmer Hammal Tulawati along with officer employees. Mandis will be privatized and big people and private companies will have direct benefits, so the government should withdraw this act. This will not benefit anyone.

Faujdar said that the Model Act is contrary to the Agricultural Produce Market Act 1972. The Act was enacted in 1972 with a stringent provision to keep farmers free from exploitation of touts, brokers. The aim was to get the farmers a fair price for their agricultural produce. In the Model Act, big business, private company has been provided facility. Under the Model Act 2020, private markets, produce markets, yard platforms and direct procurement have been made, which will be a problem for small and medium farmers in tribal areas.

A fight with a staff leader
When all the officers with the ministry started performing the wait. At the same time, police officials warned him to leave. During this time, a staff leader started announcing. Angered by this, the police team took the leader in his custody and beat him up. However, other staff leaders reached there and after talking to the police, the matter was resolved. During this time, when the rest of the employees became furious and all started going towards the ministry, the police used light force on them.
