Mumbai: After a two-day respite, rain has returned to Maharashtra’s bustling capital, Mumbai, with intensified downpours since Saturday morning. The suburbs, including the city center, are experiencing heavy rainfall, and neighboring areas like Vasai, Palghar, Dombivali, Thane, and Kalyan are also drenched. However, this deluge isn’t just a nuisance; it’s causing significant disruptions.
Local Trains Hit Hard
Central Railway: Commuters relying on Central Railway services are facing delays of 10 to 15 minutes due to the rain. Crowds have swelled at stations like Thane, Dadar, and Badlapur as passengers grapple with the inconvenience.
Harbour Railway: Trains on the Harbour line are running 5 to 11 minutes late, adding to the commuter woes.
Western Railway: The Western Railway network is also affected, with trains running 5 to 10 minutes behind schedule.
Lifeline Slowed Down
Mumbai’s local trains, often called the lifeline of the city, have slowed down due to the inclement weather. Morning commuters are grappling with the delays caused by waterlogged tracks and crowded stations.
Weather Forecast
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the rain will persist throughout the day. Low-lying areas have already succumbed to waterlogging, impacting road traffic. Notably, the Andheri subway is closed due to flooding.
Stay Prepared
As the rain continues, Mumbai residents are advised to stay vigilant. Keep an umbrella handy, check for travel updates and brace for further downpours. The city’s resilience will be tested once again as it navigates the challenges posed by this monsoon onslaught.
