Dublin: Ireland’s Fianna Fail party on Saturday announced the election of its leader Michael Martin as the new prime minister, after reaching a coalition agreement with two other leading parties to form a new government.

Martin succeeds Leo Varadkar as prime minister, Varadkar heads Fianna Fail’s main coalition partner Fine Gael. Martin achieved a working majority in the parliament after the country’s Green Party voted to join the coalition On Friday.

As per report by Sputnik Ireland’s lower house voted 93-63 in favor of Martin to elect him the Prime Minister in a special parliamentary vote on Saturday. Martin is to serve as the country’s leader for two years before Varadkar returns to the position, as per the coalition deal.
