Jerusalem: The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified, as the Lebanese militant group claimed responsibility for a significant drone attack on Israeli territory. On Sunday morning, Hezbollah announced that it had launched a barrage of drones targeting what it described as a “key Israeli military site,” in retaliation for the assassination of one of its top commanders, Fouad Shukur, in Beirut last month.
According to Hezbollah, the attack was not limited to a single location. The group asserted that multiple enemy sites and barracks were also targeted, including the ‘Iron Dome’ missile defense platforms, which play a critical role in Israel’s air defense against incoming threats.
This escalation follows Israel’s recent airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, which the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) justified as preemptive strikes. The IDF claimed that Hezbollah was using these bases to prepare for imminent rocket and missile attacks against Israeli civilians.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, a spokesperson for the Israeli military, confirmed the strikes in Lebanon and highlighted the severity of the threat posed by Hezbollah. He emphasized that the Israeli airstrikes were acts of self-defense, aimed at neutralizing the militant group’s capability to launch attacks on Israel. Hagari also warned of the possibility of more aggressive moves from Hezbollah, including rocket, missile, and drone strikes directed at Israel.
The situation remains tense, with sirens blaring in northern Israel shortly after Hezbollah’s announcement, signaling the potential for incoming attacks. Videos circulating on social media have purportedly shown explosions in southern Lebanon, further fueling concerns of an all-out conflict between the two sides.
As both nations brace for the possibility of further hostilities, the international community watches closely, concerned that this latest escalation could spiral into a broader regional conflict.
