With the historic election victory of Kamala Harris for the post of Vice President, her husband Douglas Amhoff has also made history as he will be the first ‘second gentleman’. She is the husband of America’s first female vice president. The wife of the President of the United States is referred to as the “First Lady” while the wife of the Vice President is referred to as the “Second Lady”.

Never before in the history of the United States has a woman been president or vice president, so the official title ‘Second Gentleman, Second Husband’ will be given to the first husband of the elected leader. So with the election of Harris, these designations will be the first time such as the first woman, the first black woman, the first woman of Indian origin and the first immigrant daughter to be sworn in as Vice President and her husband will also make history in his own way for the first time.

Harris is married to entertainment lawyer Emhoff, 56, who was a staunch supporter of Harris during the election campaign. “I’m very proud of you,” Amhoff tweeted after taking a photo with Harris on Saturday.

A CNN report reported that Amhoff had always been out of the limelight and either appeared behind the scenes at Harris’ show or was seen standing in a corner in the crowd. CNN reported that Amhoff made headlines last year when a protester climbed onto Harris ‘stage and tried to snatch his microphone, and he ran to Harris’ rescue.
