Tehran: Iran has conducted a major naval exercise near the Strait of Hormuz amid tensions with the US over its nuclear program. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said that the exercise, which lasted for five days, has demonstrated ground, air, and naval strength. One-fifth of the world’s crude oil trade passes through this route. This show of the power of Iran is being considered as a direct challenge for America.
Exercise did near Strait of Hormuz
Iran has conducted this exercise near the island Strait of Hormuz, where two US Navy patrol boats were seized in 2016. Iran also arrested 10 US Navy sailors then. It is believed that America had to be warned even behind the election of this place. In January, Iran seized a South Korean oil tanker in the same area.
The exercise started two days after talks failed
This exercise, named Great Prophet, has recently been conducted two days after the nuclear talks between Iran and other countries ended without results. Israel has expressed fear that Iran is trying to build a nuclear bomb under the guise of talks.
