Supreme Court directs Center and State to file report on updated status on Manipur violence

New Delhi: A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Monday regarding the Manipur violence. During this, the Supreme Court has expressed surprise that how can the High Court order to include a community in the list of tribes. Now the Court has fixed the hearing of the petitions related to the violence for May 17 and directed the Center and the State to file an updated status report.

A bench headed by the Chief Justice took on record the steps being taken by the government to normalize the situation. Also ordered to take all necessary steps for the rehabilitation of those displaced during the violence. Instructions have also been given to provide facilities and medical assistance to the people living in relief camps.

There was no violence in the state in two days
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Center and the Manipur government, told the Supreme Court that 35 CAPF personnel are deployed, paramilitary and army. There has been no violence in the state in the last two days and normalcy is returning. The Solicitor General told the Supreme Court that helicopters and drones were being used. Relief camps have been set up to provide accommodation and food to the people. The Solicitor General urged the Supreme Court to hear the reservation matter later.

Order to take all necessary steps for the rehabilitation of the displaced people
The Supreme Court asked the governments about the displaced and ordered them to take all necessary steps to rehabilitate those displaced during the Manipur violence. Beyond this, the government said that appropriate legal steps are being taken in this regard. The state government also informed that an adequate security force has been deployed. Things are getting normal. Today the curfew has been relaxed for a few hours.

The court said that steps will also have to be taken to protect religious areas. The Solicitor General told the Supreme Court that people and property have to be protected everywhere, not just in some religious places.
