Preparations to increase number of vaccines in full swing, J&J expected to get single dose by December

New Delhi: The Single Dose Vaccine of Johnson & Johnson, which recently got Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in India, may arrive in the country by November or December this year. A top government source has given this information. Apart from this, after Covishield, Covaxin, and the Russian vaccine Sputnik, the government is expected to get the DNA vaccine of Zydus Cadila. It is expected that this vaccine may also get approval from the drug regulator soon.

The source said, ‘We are expecting 20 million doses every month from Zydus Cadila.’ He informed that the company will soon apply for comparative study and their data is good. Apart from this, Genova’s vaccine is also expected to be received in October.

The source informed that the priority, for now, is to increase the capacity of Bharat Biotech. The company currently has three working plants. He said, ‘We are getting 30 million doses of Covaccine in August, which will increase to 4 crores in September and 6-7 crores in October.’ He told that Bharat Biotech had suffered after the first consignment failed. Here, the Serum Institute of India will supply around 150 million doses every month and is also willing to export the vaccine. The government has told Serum that the vaccine is a priority for Indians.

However, the government is dependent only on 10 million doses of Sputnik V, as local manufacturers are facing difficulties in preparing the second dose of the vaccine. The components of the second dosage are different from the first. On approval of the Covaccine from the World Health Organization, a government source said that the final dossier will reach the WHO in a few days and the organization may convene a meeting soon to approve it.
