After this decision of the company, it is expected that the legal battle that has been going on for years will potentially end. However, the company said that right now they find these allegations pretentious. But this amount will help in ending his legal battle.
Let us tell you that before this, Johnson & Johnson Company had offered to give $ 2 billion as a settlement. About 40 thousand cases are registered against the company. It is alleged that the talcum powder being manufactured by the company contains traces of asbestos causing ovarian cancer. Although the company never accepted these allegations. But in May 2020, it stopped selling its talc-based baby powder in the US and Canada, and then last year the company decided to stop selling it worldwide.
Johnson & Johnson holds the record for selling children’s talcum powder for almost 130 years. According to the company, through its subsidiary LTL Management LLC, it is ready to pay US $ 890 million to thousands of claimants over the next 25 years. The press release issued by the company mentions that the cancer-related claims are based on the allegation that cosmetic talc causes ovarian cancer and mesothelioma. But this has been debunked long ago by independent experts as well as government and regulatory bodies.
