New Delhi: The demand for electric scooters is increasing rapidly all over the world. Although new brands are continuously entering the market, Honda’s electric scooter was waiting for a long time. Finally, Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Honda has unveiled its first electric scooter Honda M1 in the global market. This scooter is part of the same plan, in which the company said that it will introduce 10 new electric two-wheelers by 2025. The company plans to have only electric vehicles in the portfolio by 2040.

Power and Performance
The Honda EM1 targets the company’s young buyers and the ‘EM’ stands for Electric Moped. Which has been developed as a better means for daily commutes in urban areas. In this, the company has used Honda Mobile Power Pack i.e. swappable battery. It is claimed that this battery will give a driving range of up to 41.3 kilometers on a single charge and its top speed is 45 kilometers per hour.

The electric motor given in it generates a power output of 0.58kW and a torque of 1.7kW. In ECON mode, the output is set to 0.86kW. The company claims that the EM1 electric scooter can climb at an angle of 10 degrees with a weight of 75 kg. The ECON mode softens the throttle operation and reduces the top speed, though it does increase the driving range slightly.

Swappable Battery
In Honda EM1, the company has used a mobile power pack ie a swappable battery. You can easily charge this battery by removing it from the scooter and connecting it to the charger installed at home. In this electric scooter, the company has given a digital instrument display, under-seat storage space under the seat, a USB socket, pylon footpegs for the person sitting behind, and a rear carrier.

In terms of dimensions, this Honda e-scooter is 1,860mm long and its seat height is 740mm. The ground clearance is 135mm and it weighs just 95 kg including the battery. The company claims that being compact in size and light in weight, this electric scooter performs better.

The frame is given a durable steel underbone design. It has 31 mm telescopic forks at the front and twin rear shock absorber suspension equipped with double tube dampers at the rear. The front wheel is made of aluminum, and the rear wheel is an aluminum/steel composite. Talking about braking, it has a 190mm single-piston caliper disc at the front and a 110mm drum brake at the rear. What makes it even better is the Combined Brake System (CBS) for balanced braking even at high speeds.
