New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has dealt a significant blow to trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar. Following the cancellation of her training program, the UPSC has taken the unprecedented step of canceling her provisional candidature for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2022. But that’s not all the commission has gone further, permanently debarring her from appearing in any future UPSC exams.
Irregularities Uncovered
The UPSC’s decision comes after a thorough examination of available records. Puja Khedkar has been found guilty of violating the provisions of the CSE-2022 Rules. Her fraudulent actions include obtaining more opportunities than the approved limit by falsifying her identity. The commission issued a show cause notice (SCN) to Khedkar on July 18, alleging these irregularities.
Missed Deadlines and Last Chances
Despite the SCN, Khedkar requested additional time until August 4 to collect the necessary documents for her reply. The UPSC granted her a last chance, setting a deadline of 3:30 pm on July 30. Unfortunately, she failed to explain within the stipulated time, leading to the cancellation of her candidature.
The Controversy Unfolds
Puja Khedkar, a 2023 batch officer, submitted several medical certificates during the application process. One of these certificates claimed visual disability. However, allegations surfaced that she misrepresented herself as physically handicapped and belonging to the Other Backward Class (OBC) community. Additionally, Khedkar faced accusations of misusing privileges during her posting in Pune.
The UPSC’s crackdown underscores the importance of maintaining integrity and transparency in the civil services examination process. Puja Khedkar’s case serves as a cautionary tale for aspiring officers and highlights the consequences of fraudulent practices.
