New Delhi: The political landscape of Delhi has been shaken by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s surprise resignation, triggering intense speculation over his successor. Two days after Kejriwal stepped down, political circles in the capital are buzzing with debates over who will now lead the state. Several potential names have emerged in the race, but one candidate appears to be leading the pack. Who is this frontrunner, and why is their name being favored?
As the political atmosphere heats up, all eyes are on the unfolding drama. Analysts and party insiders are scrambling to identify the individual who will take the reins of power after Kejriwal’s exit. Among the top contenders are Saurabh Bhardwaj, a key figure within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP); Manish Sisodia, Kejriwal’s long-time deputy; and Atishi Marlena, a rising star within the party.
Kejriwal’s Cryptic Statement Hints at Future
Amid this political jostling, Kejriwal’s own statements seem to have ruled out certain contenders. In his resignation speech, Kejriwal pointedly remarked that both he and Sisodia would only return to office when the public fully restores their confidence in their honesty. “I will only sit on the Chief Minister’s chair again when people give me a certificate of honesty. I want to prove my integrity by facing legal scrutiny,” Kejriwal stated, suggesting a self-imposed exile until further vindication.
This comment has led many to believe that Manish Sisodia, despite his high-profile role in Kejriwal’s government, is no longer in the running for either the Chief Minister or Deputy Chief Minister post. Sisodia, who was recently cleared by the Supreme Court to resume his duties, echoed Kejriwal’s sentiments, saying, “I have no interest in political positions. I didn’t come into politics for power or titles.”
Atishi Marlena Emerges as a Strong Contender
With Sisodia seemingly out of the race, attention has shifted to Atishi Marlena, a key AAP leader and minister, who is now seen as the top candidate to take over as Chief Minister. According to insiders, her name has gained significant momentum within the party, and it is expected that the upcoming legislative party meeting will further cement her candidacy. Known for her work in education reform, Atishi enjoys a strong public image and has gained recognition for her contributions to Delhi’s governance.
Another name being floated is that of Saurabh Bhardwaj, a senior AAP leader and minister with a background in law. Bhardwaj, known for his legislative expertise, could also be in the running, though Atishi’s growing prominence suggests she may have the upper hand.
AAP to Decide in Crucial Meeting
Amid all the speculation, the final decision will be made at a crucial AAP legislature party meeting. Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh has refrained from confirming any names but hinted that Atishi is a serious contender. “The legislature party will decide,” Singh stated, without ruling out any candidates.
The political vacuum left by Kejriwal’s resignation has thrown the capital into a state of uncertainty. As the race heats up, Delhi waits to see who will ascend to the Chief Minister’s office and steer the capital through its next chapter.
