Chandigarh: Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh once again escaped from the custody of the police, whose information was shared with the media by DIG Jalandhar. DIG Jalandhar Swapan Sharma said on Sunday that Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh had changed his route after being chased by the police. Also, Amritpal’s car hit the motorcyclists during a car chase on a one-lane link road to evade the police and escape. The Punjab Police has declared Singh a proclaimed offender and registered a fresh FIR against the ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief and his associates in the case of possession of illegal weapons.
Talking to the media, DIG Sharma shared the details of the high-speed car chase that took place on Saturday and said that the ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief’s car was rammed by several motorcycles to escape and divert the attention of the police. collided. He told news agency ANI, “While overtaking us, he collided with 5-6 motorcyclists, some of whom were trying to stop us from giving chase.”
DIG Sharma told that during the interception in the Mehatpur area of Jalandhar, a person in the car jumped during the chase. Singh’s seven armed guards, who were in two cars leading the convoy, were arrested by the police, but Amritpal Singh, who was in the third car, managed to escape from the spot. According to sources, there were four people including Amritpal Singh in the Mercedes car, which was being driven by Singh’s uncle. All four are yet to be traced.
According to reports, Amritpal left his Mercedes in a village near Nakodar with his phone in the car from where he fled on a motorcycle. Police suspect that Singh is hiding around Sarinh village in Nakodar, where the Jalandhar police commissioner had arrived on Saturday night to lead the operation. DIG Jalandhar Swapan Sharma confirmed that they have recovered two cars and illegal weapons.
He further told that Amritpal had links with Pakistan-ISI. Intel documents suggested that the Khalistani sympathizer was brought from Dubai to Punjab by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The police is also probing how the vehicles were financed. Also, the Punjab Police found an abandoned car in the Jalandhar district on Sunday, which contained a rifle and several dozen live cartridges. Police seized the ammunition and said the black-colored multi-utility car was part of Amritpal’s convoy on Saturday.
