New Delhi: To expand its Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) product portfolio, Hyundai will invest Rs 4,000 crore in India. The carmaker has already revealed its plans to launch 6 new BEVs in various body styles including SUVs. While the company recently introduced the Ioniq 5 electric crossover, its next EV is expected to be the Creta electric SUV. Codenamed SU2i EV, the Hyundai Creta Electric has been spied testing for the first time in the country.

The test mule was seen in a gray shade. Although this model was half camouflaged. One can see the different colors of the floor pan extensions and body panels. Most of its design and styling elements look similar to the regular model. The new Hyundai Creta Electric can be designed on a modified version of the existing platform. At present, there is no information about its battery pack and range. It is reported that Creta EV can take its powertrain from Kona EV. It houses a 39.2kWh lithium-ion battery and claims an ARAI-rated range of 452km.

When will it debut?
The Hyundai Creta Electric is currently in its early stages and is expected to debut at the 2025 Auto Expo. It may enter series production by the end of 2024. When launched, the Creta EV will directly rival the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YY8 EV. It will also compete with upcoming mid-size SUVs from Mahindra and Tata. Hyundai has targeted retail sales of 20,000 – 25,000 units of the electric Creta on an annual basis.

The Price
As far as the price is concerned, the Hyundai Creta EV could be priced between Rs. 15 lakh for the entry-level variant – up to Rs. 30 lacks for the fully-packed variant. The company is likely to use its Chennai-based plant for its production. Hyundai is planning to increase its production capacity to 8.5 lakh units in FY22 with an investment of Rs 1,472 crore.
