Dehradun: If you are thinking of moving towards Badrinath Dham or the mountains, then be careful about the weather because the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert and expressed the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in the mountains including Dehradun. This time due to the Monsoon that arrived in Uttarakhand after 9 days from the normal, due to continuous or intermittent rain in many places for the last two days, the weather has become pleasant, but there has been a catastrophe in the mountains. Especially in Pithoragarh and Bageshwar, life is said to be busy.
After Tuesday, there was heavy rain in Bageshwar on Wednesday as well. After stopping for a few hours, the water level of the Saryu and Gomti rivers is near the danger mark due to incessant rains since night. The river has climbed on the Saryu Ghat, so there is a power failure in many areas. Dozens of roads have been closed due to the river drain being in spate and there are reports of two bridges being washed away in the district. Many people even came to the rescue by leaving their homes.
Apart from this, there are also reports that more than a dozen in Pithoragarh and a major road in the Nainital district have been closed. Badrinath National Highway is also getting disrupted time and again due to the falling of debris from the mountains and the blocking of drains due to rain. More than six dozen important roads of the state including the Dehradun Highway are said to be obstructed or continuously affected by rain.
What are the weather patterns and how will they be?
This time the monsoon took about a month to reach Uttarakhand from Kerala, whereas last year it had reached a week earlier than normal i.e. June 20. However, Bikram Singh, director of the Zonal Meteorological Center, has been quoted as saying that for the next three days i.e. July 2 and 3, a red alert has been issued for very heavy rain somewhere in Dehradun, Bageshwar, Nainital, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh.
A red alert means that due to rain in these areas, conditions like landslides, waterlogging or floods can be created. This is a warning for you to be very cautious, especially the travelers should plan with preparation only after taking weather updates while going or coming towards the mountains.
