Lucknow: In the second phase of the ongoing assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, today i.e. on February 14, voting was held in 55 seats in 9 districts of western Uttar Pradesh. In the second phase of the UP elections, 62 percent voting took place and in this way, the fate of 586 candidates was imprisoned in the EVMs in this phase. This time around 3 percent less turnout was recorded as compared to the last assembly elections. However, the final data has not been released by the commission yet and the final data is awaited. In this way, with the election of two phases, elections have been completed for most of the seats in western UP.
In the second phase, elections were held on 55 seats. Out of this, the BJP had won 38 seats in the 2017 assembly elections. Whereas SP got 15 and Congress got two seats. SP and Congress had fought the last assembly elections in the alliance. Of the 15 seats won by the SP, Muslim candidates won 10 seats.
78 Muslim candidates in the second phase
Let us tell you that in the second phase, 78 candidates are Muslims. Samajwadi Party has fielded 18, BSP 23, Congress 21, and Asaduddin Owaisi’s party has fielded 15 Muslims. While BJP’s ally Apna Dal (S) has also fielded Haider Ali Khan, son of Rampur’s Nawab Qasim Ali Khan, who is the first Muslim candidate of the saffron camp since 2014, from Swar Tanda in Rampur. Not only this but this time also there is a direct confrontation between Muslim candidates in many seats like in the previous elections. Although BSP did not get a single seat in this phase in the 2017 elections, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it had won four seats in this region and it is clear that it has become stronger than ever. At the same time, SP got three seats in the last Lok Sabha elections. SP and BSP had filled the alliance.

In the second phase of UP elections, Yogi cabinet minister Suresh Khanna, Minister of State for Secondary Education Gulab Devi, Minister of State for Jal Shakti Baldev Singh Aulakh, and Minister of State for Urban Development Mahesh Chandra Gupta along with former minister Dharampal Singh Saini’s luck turned into EVMs. . Apart from this, many veterans including Azam Khan from SP, Abdullah Azam, former minister Dr. Dharam Singh Saini, former minister Mehboob Ali were in the fray in this phase.
61.08 percent voting took place in the first phase
In the first phase of polling, 61.08 percent voter turnout was recorded in 58 assembly constituencies of 11 districts, which was less than the last time (63.5). 623 candidates were in the fray in this phase, including 73 women candidates. Around 2.27 crore people had decided the fate of candidates in a total of 58 constituencies spread over 11 districts of the state’s western belt. According to the Election Commission, 69.42 percent of votes were cast in Shamli, 65.34 in Muzaffarnagar, 60.91 in Meerut, 61.35 in Baghpat, 60.52 in Bulandshahr, 60.49 in Aligarh, 54.77 in Ghaziabad, and 60.50 in Hapur. It is believed that if there is less voting in the election, then the ruling party benefits.
