This year the festival of Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on 22nd August (Sunday). This festival is dedicated to the love of brother and sister. This year there is no shadow of Bhadra on the day of Rakhi. On the day of Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie a thread of protection and perform aarti for the long life of their brothers. Then tilak on the forehead is applied continuously and sweets are fed. After this, the brother gives a promise and gift to protect his sister.

On Rakshabandhan, the festival of brother-sister affection, the combination of Shobhan Yoga and Dhanishta Nakshatra is being formed on 22nd August. If there is Shobhan Yoga in the morning and Dhanishta Nakshatra in the evening, it will be auspicious. From morning till evening, sisters will be able to tie the thread of protection on the wrists of their brothers. According to Pandit Rajeshwaranand Saraswati, founder of Sureshwara Mahadev Peeth, the full moon date will start from 3.45 pm on 21st August and will remain till 5.58 pm on 22nd August.

On the day of Rakshabandhan, there is Shobhan Yoga from 6.15 am to 10.34 am and Dhanishta Nakshatra will remain till 7.39 am. Rakhi can be tied from sunrise to sunset. The best Muhurta is Abhijeet Muhurta from 12.04 to 12.58 PM and Shubh Muhurta from 1.44 to 4.03 PM.

Know what are the important things to keep in mind while tying Rakhi

Bhadra and Rahu Kaal
The Muhurta should always be observed on the day of Raksha Bandhan. The Sister should never tie Rakhi on her brother’s wrist during Bhadra and Rahukal. Both these are considered inauspicious times. There is no success in the work done during these times.

Broken Akshat
According to Hindu scriptures, tilak of Akshat and Roli is done on the forehead of men on Rakshabandhan. Sister, take care that the broken Akshat is not used. Akshat means one who has no damage.

Focus of direction
According to Vastu Shastra, the direction should be kept in mind while tying Rakhi. Brother should always be facing east or north direction.

Avoid black
Black color should not be used on the festival of Raksha Bandhan. It shows negativity. If possible, buy Rakhi of auspicious color according to your brother’s zodiac sign.
