IPL 2026 Schedule Out

Key Highlights of IPL 2026 Phase 1

  • Season Opener: RCB vs SRH in Bengaluru on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
  • Partial Schedule: Only the first 20 matches across 10 venues have been announced.
  • Election Impact: The full schedule is on hold due to upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
  • Double Headers: The first weekend features high-profile clashes, including MI vs KKR and RR vs CSK.
  • Venue Spotlight: Matches will be held in 10 cities, including the new stadium at Mullanpur and a significant “home” presence for RR in Guwahati.

The IPL Governing Council has taken a cautious approach for the 2026 season, releasing the itinerary in two distinct phases. This strategy mirrors previous election-year setups, ensuring that the tournament’s security and logistics do not clash with democratic processes in key states like West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah noted that the board is in constant communication with the Election Commission of India. Once the polling dates for the four states are finalized, the remainder of the 74-match tournament schedule will be locked in. For now, 20 matches will be played across 10 venues over the first 16 days.

The ‘Dhoni’ Factor and Team Updates

A major talking point ahead of the season has been the availability of MS Dhoni. Despite ongoing speculation, the Chennai Super Kings CEO recently provided a massive update, confirming that “Thala” will indeed be available for the full season. This news has sparked a surge in ticket demand for CSK’s early fixtures against RR and RCB.

On the competitive front, the Pakistan national team’s recent slump, including a historic series loss to Bangladesh, has shifted the focus of subcontinental fans entirely toward the high-octane IPL. With the ICC also announcing record prize money for recent tournament winners, the financial and sporting stakes for IPL 2026 have never been higher.

Venues and Fan Experience

The first phase will see 10 cities hosting games, including New Chandigarh (Mullanpur) and Lucknow. Rajasthan Royals will utilize Guwahati as their primary home base for the first phase, a move intended to grow the sport in the North-East. All eyes will be on the April 5th clash between RCB and CSK, a repeat of last year’s high-stakes thriller, which is already expected to be a sell-out at the Chinnaswamy.
