They will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the season’s title decider at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31.
A Record Opening Stand
The chase was built on a platform of exceptional quality from the very first ball. Captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan came together at the top of the order and proceeded to dismantle the Rajasthan bowling attack with remarkable fluency and intent. The pair put on 167 runs for the opening wicket in just 12.5 overs, a partnership that effectively ended the contest as a competitive one.
Sudharsan’s contribution was sharp and decisive. He struck 58 runs off just 32 deliveries, lacing his innings with 8 fours and 1 six before an unfortunate hit-wicket dismissal brought his knock to an end.
Gill’s Century for the Ages
If Sudharsan provided the platform, Gill provided the spectacle. The Gujarat captain played one of the finest innings of this IPL season, scoring 104 runs off just 53 balls at a breathtaking strike rate of 196. His innings was studded with 15 fours and 3 sixes, and it single-handedly ensured that Gujarat never felt the pressure of the chase at any point.
Gill was eventually dismissed LBW off a Jofra Archer delivery after completing his century, having already done the damage beyond repair for Rajasthan.
GT Cross the Line Comfortably
After Gill’s departure, Washington Sundar contributed a brisk 16 off 9 balls before returning to the pavilion. Jos Buttler finished unbeaten on 9, while Rahul Tewatia closed out the chase not out on 17, steering Gujarat home with ease.
For Rajasthan Royals, Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, and Brijesh Sharma each claimed one wicket, but the total of 214 ultimately proved well short of what was needed to contain a Gujarat batting lineup firing on all cylinders.
