Intense Encounter Continues in Doda

Doda: An intense encounter has reignited in the Doda area on Thursday morning, as security forces engage in a relentless operation against terrorists. The operation is currently underway in the Kastigarh region of Doda, marking the fourth day of their determined efforts.

Key Details:

  1. High-Stakes Search Operation:
  • Following the martyrdom of 12 soldiers in 10 terrorist attacks over the past 84 days in the Jammu region, the Indian Army has launched its largest search operation. National Rifles and Special Commandos of Police are leading the charge, focusing on five identified locations in Doda and Kathua. These areas hold crucial clues about the presence of approximately 24 terrorists, including those involved in the fierce Desa forest encounter that claimed the lives of five soldiers.
  • Drones and helicopters are aiding the search, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the rugged terrain. The joint efforts of police and army personnel have intensified, with a thorough sweep of the village conducted this morning.
  1. Village Defense Guards (VDG) Reinstated:
  • Armed with rifles, the VDG plays a vital role in the operation. These guards were initially deployed in Jammu and Kashmir after military training in 1995 but were later disbanded. However, they have been reinstated since August 2022, receiving a monthly salary of Rs 4,000 and weapons.
  1. VDG’s Vigilance:
  • On Tuesday night, between 10:45 pm and 2:00 am, VDG personnel responded to suspicious activity during the encounter near Kalan Bhata and Panchan Bhata in the Desa forest area. Additionally, two shells were recovered from the Gandoh region. Despite their efforts, the exact location of the terrorists remained elusive.
